Colic Prevention Care At MEC
Even the most experienced horse owners have one great fear: colic. Most horse owners have seen horse colics ranging from a mild discomfort to one that is severe enough to rush to the local large animal hospital. Colic is no joke. Did you know that something as simple as recent change in activity level could trigger colic? Here at Manor Equestrian, we’ve made a commitment to mitigating these risks for the safety and health of your horse.
Manor Equestrian is lucky and grateful to have Dr. Jonathan Cohen, DVM and Sharon Choney of Nutrena on our team. Thanks to their expertise and the resources that they bring with them, we are more confident than ever in our colic prevention efforts.
In Dr. Cohen’s opinion, the best preventative is clean water, good diet, sufficient turn out, daily exercise, excellent dental care, and of course, fresh grass and/or hay. Because colic is often a product of feeding mismanagement, we set out to provide the best feeds for the horses in our barn.
When we began our investigation of feeds, we reached out to Sharon Choney of Nutrena. We knew Nutrena would be a great fit for Manor Equestrian because it is a respected brand used by all equitation disciplines. Sharon is our on-call horse nutritionist and is able to advise us on the variety of feeds and supplements that benefit the horses based on age, type of work, and weight.
MEC is very fortunate to have both of these experts on hand at our facility.
